International Payment Gateway

An international payment gateway is a service that facilitates online transactions and enables businesses to accept payments from customers around the world. It acts as an intermediary between the merchant (seller) and the financial institutions involved in the transaction, ensuring the secure and efficient transfer of funds.

Currently Two Financial Institutions namely, Bank of Bhutan Limited and Bhutan National Bank Limited facilitates the service in USD and INR.

International Cards

International cards generally refer to credit and debit cards that are issued by financial institutions and can be used for transactions not only within the cardholder's home country but also globally. These cards typically carry international card network logos such as Visa, MasterCard, Maestro Etc.

Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT)

The RMA joined the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) in 2005. SWIFT is a messaging network designed to facilitate secure and standardized communication among financial institutions globally. The RMA's adoption and implementation of the ISO 20022 messaging standard marked a substantial step in the modernization and enhancement of financial messaging efficiency. This adoption allows for a more thorough and standardized method of exchanging information within the worldwide financial landscape.

At present, BOBL, BNBL, BDBL, DK Ltd, Druk PNB Bank Ltd, and T Bank Ltd are all members of the SWIFT network.
