Legal Framework

The RMA was established as Bhutan’s central bank in 1982 through an act of Parliament. The RMA Act 2010 (which replaced the RMA Act 1982) along with the Financial Services Act of Bhutan 2011 empowers the RMA to licence financial service providers and regulate the financial sector, including the regulation of the payments system and management of foreign exchange. See About RMA for more information about the RMA.
